Format

Pouch size and what it changes

Format is the smaller of the two physical decisions in nicotine pouches (alongside moisture content). Three formats currently exist on the European market: mini (around 0.4 to 0.5 g per pouch), slim (around 0.6 to 0.8 g, the most-stocked format), and regular (0.9 g and above, mostly used by traditional snus brands and a handful of high-load pouches). The size doesn't determine strength on its own; a 0.5 g mini at 25 mg/g delivers more nicotine than a 0.7 g slim at 12 mg/g, but format changes the feel under the lip, the session length, and the discretion of the pouch in use.

The three formats we stock

Slim (around 0.6 to 0.8 g): The default format for most brands and the bulk of our catalogue. The standard slim sits comfortably under the upper lip, holds enough material for a 30-to-45-minute session, and stays visually discreet. VELO, ZYN, Klint, AVANT, Helwit, NEAFS, and most others run slim as their primary format.

Mini (around 0.4 to 0.5 g): Smaller and lighter under the lip. The mini sits closer to invisible during conversation and is the right pick for situations where a slim feels too present (during meals, in formal contexts, during exercise). Most flavour and strength territory is also available in mini, but with shorter session lengths because of the lower material volume. ZYN Mini, Skruf Super White Mini, and Klint Spicy Ginger Mini are the most common minis in the catalogue.

Regular (0.9 g and above): The traditional snus-style format, larger under the lip and longer-lasting (45 minutes to over an hour per session). Less common in tobacco-free pouches; mostly used where high nicotine loads are paired with extended release. Iceberg's heavier variants and certain Cuba lines sit here.

How format affects feel

The two practical differences between slim and mini come down to first-minute intensity and session length. A mini sits closer to your lip surface with less material between the nicotine and your mucous membrane, which produces a slightly faster initial release. A slim has more material to soak into, which extends the curve. For total nicotine delivered across a session the difference is small; for the experienced feel during the first few minutes the difference is meaningful.

Frequently asked

Which format should I start with?

Slim is the default and the right starting point for most pouch buyers. It's the format most brands optimise their flavour and nicotine release curves around. Mini becomes useful once you've found a flavour and strength you like and want a more discreet version of it for specific contexts (work meetings, exercise, social events).

Does mini mean less nicotine?

Not necessarily. Mini pouches use a smaller pouch shell with less filler, so a 0.5 g mini at 12 mg/g delivers roughly 6 mg of nicotine per pouch. But brands that target high-strength minis (Skruf Super White Mini Strong, Klint Spicy Ginger X Strong Mini) pack the smaller shell to higher concentrations, so a mini at 35 mg/g still delivers around 17 mg per pouch. Always check the per-pouch figure rather than assuming size correlates with strength.

Why don't more brands make regular-format pouches?

The tobacco-free pouch category was built around the slim format from its 2015 starting point, partly because slim pouches read as more modern and discreet than the larger traditional snus format. Most consumer demand sits in slim and mini; regular-format tobacco-free pouches mostly exist where the brand wants to deliver a higher absolute mg load (Iceberg) or where the brand is positioning specifically against traditional snus.
