Skruf
The Snus Rebels from Småland
Skruf began in 2002 when two friends from rural Småland, Adam Gillberg and Jonas Engwall, decided the Swedish snus industry needed shaking up. The market was dominated by dark, traditional packaging. Their answer in 2003 was a white can that stood out on every shelf. They called themselves the Snus Rebels, set up production in an old dairy in rural Sweden, and built one of the country's most recognised snus brands. Imperial Tobacco took a stake in 2005, and Skruf has been part of the Imperial Brands portfolio since.
Where tradition meets refinement
Skruf's signature is rose oil. A small, deliberate addition that gives their pouches a distinctive softness on top of the mint or berry profile. It's the kind of detail you might not consciously notice, but you'd miss if it were gone. The same approach runs through their pasteurisation: a process that prioritises flavour stability over speed.
The Super White line launched in 2018 brought Skruf into the tobacco-free nicotine pouch category. Same principles as their traditional snus, applied to a plant-fibre pouch that stays white throughout use and sits soft against the gum.
The range we stock
Mint anchors the catalogue. Fresh Mint runs across S2, S3, and S4 (around 6 to 13 mg per pouch), the entry into Skruf for most people. Frozen Mint Superslim S4 leans colder. Fresh Freeze Ultra Limited and Crystal Fresh Extra Strong sit at the upper end of mint intensity.
On the fruit side: Purple Cassice S2 and S3 (blackcurrant), Indigo Berry S2 (mixed berry with a mint backbone), and Fresh Apple Extra Strong. Nordic Liquorice S2 and S4 cover the Scandinavian liquorice end, a flavour profile that sits quietly in the global category but is core to Skruf's identity at home.
Strength on a dot scale
Skruf marks strength with dots on the can, from one dot through to six. The S-numbering you'll see on product titles (S2, S3, S4) maps to the same scale: S2 is around 6 to 8 mg per pouch, S3 around 8 to 10 mg, S4 around 12 to 13 mg. The Extra Strong tier sits above that, roughly 16 mg upward. We've mapped Skruf's tiers against every other brand we stock in the Strength Guide.
Format and can
Skruf Super White comes in Slim and Super Slim formats, around 0.7 to 0.8 g per pouch. One detail worth noting: Skruf cans hold 24 pouches instead of the industry standard 20. A small thing, but it works out to four extra pouches per can without changing the price meaningfully. The cans themselves have a catch lid for used pouches and open one-handed.

Frequently asked
Which Skruf should I start with?
For a first pouch, Skruf Fresh Mint S2 sits at the easy end as a 6 mg slim format. If S2 fades too fast after a few days, step up to Fresh Mint S3 in the same flavour rather than changing the flavour. If mint isn't your thing, Purple Cassice S2 (blackcurrant) is the gentler fruit entry point.
What's the strongest Skruf available?
Crystal Fresh Extra Strong and Fresh Apple Extra Strong sit at the top, around 16 mg per pouch. Fresh Freeze Ultra Limited is in the same intensity range with a colder mint profile. None of these are recommended starting points; come to them after working through the S2 to S4 range.
What does the rose oil in Skruf taste like?
It's not a noticeable rose flavour. The rose oil works in the background, softening the edge of the mint or berry profile. Most people who switch to Skruf from another brand notice the difference but couldn't name it without being told what it is.
What's the difference between Skruf and traditional snus?
Skruf makes both. Their original product line was traditional Swedish snus (containing tobacco), and the Super White line launched in 2018 is their tobacco-free nicotine pouch range. This collection is the Super White line: tobacco-free pouches in plant fibre, sometimes referred to as "tabakfreier Snus" in everyday German usage.
Why do Skruf cans have 24 pouches instead of 20?
Skruf's standard can size is 24 pouches across the Super White range, including Fresh Mint, Purple Cassice, Indigo Berry, and Nordic Liquorice. It's a small but practical detail that adds about 20 percent more pouches per can compared to the industry standard.
