VELO Snus & Nicotine Pouches
From Epok to Lyft to VELO
VELO is one of Europe's most familiar tobacco-free snus brands, sold as a nicotine pouch in mint, fruit, and liquorice. It began life under another name. In 2014, a brand called Epok launched what's widely credited as the first all-white nicotine pouch, a tobacco-free format that broke from the look and feel of traditional Swedish snus. Epok was acquired by British American Tobacco in 2017, briefly rebadged as Lyft, and finally consolidated under the VELO name in 2019. The Lyft transition is why some long-time customers still occasionally ask whether the two are the same product. They are.
A Scandinavian range, expanded
VELO's range now sits across mint, citrus, fruit, berry, floral, and liquorice profiles, plus nicotine-free Zero variants. The mint side anchors the catalogue: Crispy Peppermint, Crispy Peppermint Mini, Freezing Peppermint, Freezing Peppermint Ultra, Freezing Peppermint Max, Peppermint Storm, Green Spearmint, Bright Spearmint Mini, and Simply Spearmint Mini cover everything from soft and rounded through to sharp and arctic.
Beyond mint: Icy Cherry, Mango Flame (with a subtle warming sensation), Tropical Mango Slim and Tropical Mango High Nic, Wintery Watermelon Mini, Purple Grape and Purple Grape Mini, Arctic Grapefruit, Ruby Berry, Blue Raspberry, Orange Spark, Lime Flame, Sour Lime Mini, Zesty Elderflower, and Salty Liquorice. The McLaren Sweet Papaya sits as a Formula 1 partnership product. Crispy Peppermint Zero and Tropical Mango Zero deliver the same flavour profiles without nicotine, for anyone who wants the ritual without the load.
Strength and format
VELO uses two main formats. Mini sits around 4 to 6 mg per pouch in a discreet, almost flat shape under the lip. Slim runs the wider strength range, from mild (around 6 mg) through regular (around 10 mg) to strong (Freezing Peppermint Ultra, Freezing Peppermint Max, and Tropical Mango High Nic at the upper end, around 11 to 17 mg per pouch). Same nicotine load within a strength tier; format is a comfort choice, not a strength choice. We've mapped this against every other brand we stock in the Strength Guide.
The 2024 renaming
If you've used VELO for a few years and come back to find the names different, that's the 2024 portfolio rename. Ice Cool Mint became Crispy Peppermint. Freeze Max became Freezing Peppermint Max. The intent was to make each name describe what's inside before you open the can. Same product, same release curve, different label.
The refill system
VELO introduced a refill system in 2023: reusable cans that take refill pouches instead of disposable cans. Less plastic, same product. Worth mentioning if you've moved to VELO for daily use and want to lower the packaging side of that.

Frequently asked
Which VELO should I start with?
For a first pouch, VELO Crispy Peppermint Mini sits at the easy end as a 4 to 6 mg mini format that's barely noticeable under the lip. If you've used nicotine pouches before, VELO Crispy Peppermint Slim is the everyday default at around 10 mg. If you want something colder, Freezing Peppermint Slim is the same strength with more menthol cooling.
What's the strongest VELO available?
Freezing Peppermint Max and Freezing Peppermint Ultra sit at the top of the slim range at around 14 to 17 mg per pouch. Tropical Mango High Nic is the strongest non-mint option in the slim format. None of these are recommended starting points; come to them after working through Crispy Peppermint or one of the regular fruit options.
Are VELO and Lyft the same product?
Yes. VELO is the rebrand of the older Lyft line, which itself was the rebrand of the original Epok brand from 2014. The product chemistry has evolved across the years, but the family lineage is direct: Epok to Lyft to VELO.
Are VELO pouches tobacco-free?
Yes. VELO has been built as a tobacco-free product since the original Epok launch in 2014. The base is plant fibre, with nicotine, flavour, sweeteners, and pH balancers added. No tobacco leaf, no tobacco extract.
Is VELO the same as snus?
No, although the two are often used interchangeably in everyday conversation. Traditional Swedish snus contains tobacco. VELO is a tobacco-free nicotine pouch, often called tobacco-free snus in everyday usage. The format and feel are similar, the regulatory category and ingredients are different.
What does VELO Zero contain?
VELO Zero variants (Crispy Peppermint Zero, Tropical Mango Zero) contain plant fibre, flavour, sweeteners, and pH balancers, but no nicotine. They deliver the same flavour and pouch feel as the equivalent VELO product, without the nicotine load.
