Nicotine Pouch Statistics 2026: Strength, Prices and Flavours
Most nicotine pouch statistics online are copied from the same handful of market reports. This page is different. Every headline number below is computed from things we can count ourselves: a live catalogue of 728 products from 52 brands, standardized strength data from our Strength Index, and real orders from our EU customers. Every figure carries its source and sample size.
The short answer
Across 728 nicotine pouches from 52 brands on one live European shelf, the median can costs 4.15 euro and strengths run from nicotine-free to 50 mg per pouch. Fruit fills 65 percent of the shelf and takes 59 percent of orders, while mint takes 39 percent of orders from 32 percent of the shelf. Buyers also reach higher than the shelf average: the strong tiers and above take 64 percent of orders. All of it is free to cite.

About the data
Three original datasets sit behind this page, all our own.
The catalogue
Every nicotine pouch product listed on pouchspot.com on 2 October 2026: 728 standard cans from 52 brands, at single-can list prices in euro. Six 308-pouch tubs are left out because they are not standard cans. This is one retailer's shelf, not the entire market, but it spans every tier from 2.99 euro value brands to 6.49 euro specialist cans and every strength from nicotine-free to the extreme end. Each product carries one strength tier, set from its nicotine content per pouch: mild (1 to 6 mg), medium (6 to 9 mg), strong (9 to 12 mg), extra strong (12 to 20 mg), ultra strong (above 20 mg) and zero.
The Strength Index
Our Nicotine Pouch Strength Index standardizes products to a single metric, milligrams per single pouch. Its August 2026 edition covers 357 products, of which 295 publish a usable per-pouch figure. The remaining 62 are flagged as ambiguous rather than silently converted, because some brands print mg per gram and pouch weights vary from 0.4 g to over 1 g. Per-pouch figures on this page come from that edition.
The order data
Real orders from our EU customers over the 180 days to 2 October 2026. Flavour, brand and strength shares are computed from the 60 best-selling products in that window, 1,976 orders in total, counted by order rather than by revenue. That is a meaningful sample for ranking what sells, and we state it openly so you can weigh it.
Strength statistics
Strength across the market
| Strength band | Share of products | Typical shelf label |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 4 mg | 13% | Light, mini, level 1 to 2 |
| 4.1 to 8 mg | 32% | Regular, medium |
| 8.1 to 12 mg | 31% | Strong |
| 12.1 to 16 mg | 15% | Extra strong |
| 16.1 to 20 mg | 1% | Extra strong, max |
| 20.1 to 30 mg | 6% | Extreme |
| Above 30 mg | 3% | Extreme |
76 percent of products with a confirmed figure sit at 12 mg per pouch or below. The extreme end above 20 mg gets the headlines, but in the Index it is 9 percent of products. If you are choosing a first pouch, the centre of the market is the 4 to 12 mg band, and our strength guide walks through what those numbers feel like in practice.
Strength words do not travel between brands
Products labelled extra strong span 6 mg (Helwit) to 20 mg (77) per pouch in the Index. The label describes a position on the brand's own ladder, not a shared scale, which is the entire reason the Strength Index exists. A poucher who moves from one brand's "strong" to another's can land a long way from where they started, so compare the number per pouch, not the word.
The extreme tier is its own market
Rabbit runs up to 50 mg per pouch, the genuine category ceiling. Pablo (24 to 30 mg per pouch) and Iceberg (30 mg per pouch) sit below it; the 50 printed on some of their cans is a per-gram figure, not a per-pouch one. The strongest pouch from VELO, the biggest international brand on our shelf, is 17 mg. If you are moving between these worlds, do it deliberately; our guide on adjusting pouch strength covers the mechanics.
Strength tiers on today's shelf
| Tier (mg per pouch) | Share of products (728) | Share of top-seller orders (1,976) |
|---|---|---|
| Zero | 5% | 6% |
| Mild (1 to 6) | 12% | 12% |
| Medium (6 to 9) | 27% | 17% |
| Strong (9 to 12) | 18% | 27% |
| Extra strong (12 to 20) | 19% | 20% |
| Ultra strong (above 20) | 19% | 18% |
The one big mismatch is in the middle. The medium tier is the largest part of the shelf but takes a much smaller share of orders, while the strong tier, 9 to 12 mg per pouch, is where buying concentrates. We publish that as an observation about the market, not as guidance.
Price statistics
Prices below are PouchSpot single-can list prices in euro, October 2026. Full tables, per-brand prices and bundle maths are in the companion piece, How Much Do Nicotine Pouches Cost?
- The median can costs 4.15 euro. The mean is 4.27 euro. Sample: 728 products.
- 39 percent of products cost under 4 euro per can, 39 percent between 4 and 5 euro, and 22 percent 5 euro or more.
- The cheapest cans in stock cost 2.99 euro (LUMI, Zeronito). The most expensive standard cans cost 6.49 euro (Loop's mini Hyper and Xtended).
- 36 of 52 brands charge one flat price for every can. ZYN charges 5.49 euro across 42 products.
- Multi-can bundles take up to about 16 percent off the single-can price.
The counterintuitive one
Price and strength do not move together. Mild, medium and strong cans sit at medians of 4.29 to 4.39 euro, while extra strong and ultra strong cans sit at 3.99 and 4.09 euro. The international brands compete in the mild to strong tiers and carry their brand pricing there, while flat-priced challengers own the strong end of the shelf.
Flavour and sales statistics
These are shares of real orders, not shelf counts. Sample: our 60 best-selling products, 1,976 orders, 180 days to 2 October 2026. The full breakdown, including the brand table and the shelf-versus-sales comparison, is in Most Popular Nicotine Pouch Flavours in 2026.
- Mint is the biggest single flavour family at 39 percent of orders, from 32 percent of the shelf.
- Fruit wins in aggregate: berry and orchard fruit (31 percent), tropical and exotic fruit (18 percent) and citrus (10 percent) combine to 59 percent of orders, from 65 percent of the shelf.
- 7 of the 10 best-selling products are fruit flavours, but the single best seller is a mint: VELO Crispy Peppermint, four orders ahead of VELO Tropical Mango High Nic.
- Coffee flavours take about 2 percent of orders. They are a real niche, but a niche.
- VELO and ZYN together account for 58 percent of top-seller orders. Challenger and value brands take the remaining 42 percent, led by Pablo, Rabbit and Cuba.
- A nicotine-free brand, Zeronito, takes 6 percent of top-seller orders.
Format statistics
Slim is not a variant any more; it is the default. 650 of 728 products (89 percent) come in slim format, 53 (7 percent) in mini, and 23 in the larger normal format. Our guide to nicotine pouch sizes covers what the formats mean in practice. Two related counts worth quoting: 39 products from 8 brands are nicotine-free, about 5 percent of the catalogue, and can counts vary between brands, which is why comparing prices properly means comparing per pouch, not per can. Our guide on comparing pouch prices shows how.
Market and regulatory context
Numbers we can count ourselves end here, so this section stays qualitative and sourced. Nicotine pouches are regulated differently across the EU because they contain no tobacco leaf and therefore sit outside much of the Tobacco Products Directive, which was written for products that do. Germany's food and consumer authority, the BVL, treats them under food law, which is why the German retail situation differs from its neighbours; our article on nicotine pouches in Germany covers the detail. In the United States, the FDA regulates pouches as tobacco products and authorized the marketing of ZYN in 2025. The Swedish experience, tracked by outlets like Snusforumet, remains the reference point for what a mature oral nicotine market looks like: decades of open access alongside Europe's lowest smoking rates, per the WHO's tobacco fact sheet data on smoking prevalence. For running industry coverage, trade outlets such as 2Firsts track the regulatory debate, including the open question this page's strength data feeds directly: any future strength cap needs a shared labelling unit first, because right now the number being capped is not reliably the number on the can.
Frequently asked questions
How strong is the average nicotine pouch in 2026?
In the Strength Index, the median is 9.4 mg per pouch and the mean 11.3 mg across 295 products with a confirmed per-pouch figure, with a full range of 1.5 to 50 mg. On today's shelf of 728 products, the medium tier (6 to 9 mg) is the largest at 27 percent of products. The strength guide translates those numbers into practice.
What is the most popular nicotine pouch flavour in 2026?
Mint is the biggest single family at 39 percent of orders, but fruit flavours combined take 59 percent. Sample: 1,976 orders across our 60 best sellers over the 180 days to 2 October 2026. The full breakdown is in our flavour sales data article.
How much does a can of nicotine pouches cost in Europe in 2026?
The median single-can price across our 728 products in October 2026 is 4.15 euro. Half of all cans cost between 3.79 and 4.79 euro, and bundles take up to about 16 percent off. See the full price statistics.
Do stronger nicotine pouches cost more?
No. The extra strong and ultra strong tiers are the cheapest nicotine tiers on our shelf, at median can prices of 3.99 and 4.09 euro, against 4.29 to 4.39 euro for mild, medium and strong.
What does extra strong mean on a nicotine pouch can?
Nothing consistent. In the Strength Index, products labelled extra strong run from 6 mg to 20 mg per pouch depending on the brand, a threefold spread under identical wording. Compare the number, not the word, using the Strength Index.
What do people actually buy: mild or strong pouches?
Stronger than the shelf. Products in the strong tier and above make up 56 percent of our catalogue but 64 percent of top-seller orders, and the strong tier (9 to 12 mg) alone takes 27 percent of orders against 18 percent of the shelf. That is an observation, not advice.
Where does this nicotine pouch data come from, and can I use it?
Catalogue and price figures come from every product listed on pouchspot.com on 2 October 2026. Per-pouch strength figures come from the August 2026 edition of the Strength Index. Sales figures come from our own orders over the 180 days to 2 October 2026. Yes, you can use it: cite "PouchSpot, October 2026" and link this page.
